    • Long-term Owner Review: Reliable & Fun to Drive

I purchased my 2005 C240 4-matic in 2006 with 12k miles as a certified pre-owned vehicle. I assumed that the vehicle had been a lease given ownership records but turned out that MB Financial also owns the service loaner fleet at Mercedes Benz of Manhattan as it is a corporate owned dealership (only one in the country). Having been a service loaner, the car was not well treated by its drivers and soon after getting it I started to notice issues like rough ride caused by damaged alloy wheels, needing to replace tires at 20k miles, some interior bits coming apart, etc. When one of the service people slipped that it had been a service loaner I remember blowing up at them to the point that they took the time and covered the expenses to make as new the issue areas I’d noticed - including new wheels and tires and tightening up / replacing interior bits. With everything sorted by the end of 2006 it felt like a new car and since that time - 19 years and 130000 miles - the car has been excellent. Yes, maintenance is expensive vs. non-lux brand & when you hit 100k miles the dealer really tries to find problems - while actual problems go unnoticed till things actually break. So I have stopped taking it to the dealer and am doing more of the work either myself or at an independent mechanic. Over the duration of ownership until the last 2 years the car cost no more than a few hundred dollars on average to maintain and repair annually. It’s had brakes done twice and it just got its 4th set of new tires (OEM Continentals). Now at over 120k miles it’s costing about $2000 per year in repairs/ maintenance as a few major repairs were needed (valve cover gasket/AC components, etc). BUT it drives and looks as if brand new which is amazing for a 20 year old car. It still puts a smile on my face when I push that accelerator and we push forward. 4-matic is EXCELLENT in wet and snow. And even as it has aged it remains handsome and gets compliments. I highly recommend this vehicle. I plan to keep it forever.
